Carer Friendly Business Awards

We recognise businesses and organisations across the West Midlands with our Carer Friendly Business Awards.

Business Awards

The Carer Friendly Business awards are for businesses and organisations across Birmingham which have contributed to supporting carers in their community and/or workplace.

Have you been positively impacted by a business and would like to nominate them? Maybe a local corner shop or café always goes out of their way to welcome you? Or maybe your employer understands that you are caring for someone and allows you to work flexibly? Maybe your GP practice supports you as a Carer and you want to acknowledge them? Maybe you want to nominate your own workplace or business as you can demonstrate how you are supporting Carers.

We want to celebrate organisations and individuals who are carer friendly and regularly go above and beyond in their support for carers.

Nominations can be made by individuals or businesses.

Carer Friendly

A business has brightened your day, by making a small change this business has improved the lives of Carers – maybe they offer a discount, maybe they ensure the layout of the business gives you the space to take a wheelchair around? Maybe you are a parent carer and you feel welcomed to take your children to the local café without judgment? Nominate Business For Carer Friendly Award

Carer Aware

Is your workplace Carer Friendly? Do they ensure you are supported whilst balancing work and caring? Have you attended an event or activity and been impressed by the work they are doing to better understand and support Carers? Nominate Business For Carer Aware Award

Making a Difference

Has a local business or organisation made a real difference to your life? Do you feel supported and valued in your role as a Carer? Does your local GP practice ensure you have access to resources locally – maybe they run a Carers Group or host regular awareness sessions? Has your experience at a local hospital exceeded your expectations to allow you to continue in your caring role? Nominate Business For Making A Difference Award

The Carers Champion

Do you have a work colleague who goes above and beyond to ensure Carers are valued in the workplace? Have they invested time to ensure you can access information and support? Does your line manager understand that you are balancing work and caring and has worked to allow you flexibility in your working week? Nominate Person For Carers Champion Award

Nominate A Business

Nominations for the Awards run from the start of Carers Week in June 2021, with the winners announced later in the year.

2020 Carer Friendly Business Awards

Committed businesses described as “beacons of light amid the bleak COVID landscape” have scooped awards for helping people across Birmingham in an unpaid Carers role.

Shabnam Khussain, who runs Hair by Shabnam, was named the winner of the Carer Friendly  category.

There were two winners in the Making a Difference category which were Gordon Strachan, Commissioning Manager at Birmingham City Council and Dr Barbara King from St Heliers Medical Practice.

The 2020 Covid award went to Rosie Barker, from the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

The Carers Champion award was presented to Jennifer Addo from the South and City College Birmingham.

All awards were judged by an independent panel of Carers and professionals who said the awards had highlighted dedication to Carers across the city.
