In July 2019, Forward Carers was commissioned by Birmingham City Council, BSOL CCG and the Children’s Trust to operate and deliver Birmingham Carers Hub, the service for unpaid Carers in Birmingham.

This year as part of Carers Week, Forward Carers has joined forces with Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and will be holding a Carers Event on Saturday 13th June 2020. This year’s theme is Making Caring Visible and as you can imagine we are very excited to be working with this venue in the heart of the city which will give us the opportunity to showcase the work Birmingham Carers Hub does across the city for Carers and to raise the profile of Caring for those public visitors to the museum.

As part of the commitment to help raise awareness and support those family members who are caring for a family member or friend, Forward Carers would like to invite Voluntary and Community Sector organisations or groups to apply for funding of up to £500 to fund either the full cost of a small event, or as a contribution towards the cost of a larger event held in Birmingham as part of National Carers Week running from 8th – 14th June 2020. The activity or event could be a coffee morning or a family fun day but will need to reflect the national theme of ‘Making Caring Visible’.

In light of the current situation, we would be open to these activities taking place later in the year or as part as Carers Rights Day in November.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

In line with this theme Forward Carers is launching Carer Friendly Brum, a city-wide initiative; which will encourage organisations, businesses, community groups and individuals to understand, appreciate and empathise with carers and to make practical changes that will have a positive impact on the lives of carers and their loved ones. This scheme is not something carers have to join, it is a scheme that opens the eyes and hearts of the community to the lives of carers, to the lives of neighbours, friends and relatives. It is therefore accessible and relevant and will remain so.

Applications must be submitted by midday on Thursday 26th March to
