As part of the Carers Week celebrations, Forward Carers hosted an event on 7 June 2022 to launch this year’s Carer Friendly Business Awards. Our Awards help to recognise and celebrate businesses, organisations and individuals who support unpaid family Carers within their workforce or community.
Previous Carer Friendly Award winner, Rob Bhol from Nicholls Brimble Bhol solicitors spoke openly at the launch event about the impact of working and being a Carer. Rob’s law firm was nominated for an award two years ago by one of his employees who juggles being a solicitor and mother to two severely disabled children. This employee really valued the understanding and flexibility she was given by Rob and his partners who acknowledged the demands of her caring responsibilities that stretched beyond the ‘normal’ tasks of being a parent.
Touched by this award, Nicholls Brimble Bhol has been inspired to sponsor this year’s Carer Friendly Business Awards and really champion the role of Carers both within his organisation and outside the workplace. The firm in Harborne, Birmingham can support unpaid Carers with all legal issues and will sensitively arrange lasting power of attorney at a discounted rate.
Rob understands as a parent carer to his youngest son who has autism, that sometimes it’s the small things that can make all the difference.
He explained, “If I get a call from my son and I don’t answer it, his anxiety levels start rising. It takes just two seconds for me to excuse myself at work to take the call and deal with it and then everything is fine. I know some workplaces frown upon staff having mobile phones at work but for someone who is a Carer, making this small change can make a huge difference to carers.”
