On Saturday 18 May 2024, former Carer Sylvia Johnson-Davis and her daughter Sabrina, aged 28 will be undertaking Alzheimer’s Society’s Trek26 Memory Walk in London.

Kizah Johnson had Alzheimer’s Disease and her daughter Sylvia shared primary care with her brother for six years. Sylvia is undertaking the Trek26 challenge in Sylvia’s words “to honour her legacy and raise monies to support the Alzheimer’s Society.”

Sylvia said,

“Mum was an incredible woman who really pushed through, even when she lost her ability to communicate and walk; she continued to be my hero and inspiration. I absolutely miss her to this day.”

“My daughter and I made the commitment to do this walk in honour of my amazing mother since her passing in January 2020. It has been four years now since mum passed away having lived gracefully with Alzheimer’s disease. My daughter and I really wanted to do the memory walk every year but didn’t manage to do it. Life got in the way, and since 2021, we have not managed to do it every year, until now!”

Sylvia has health problems, but the thought of her Mum gives her the inspiration to power through the pain.

“We have been walking, which is my happy place in my local park and recently joined the gym for that extra motivation 🏋🏿‍♀️. It has been hard but when I’m feeling the resistance, I remember my Why? Despite my lumbar disc bulge and arthritis in both knees, my motivation and drive to do these 13 miles, cancel out all of the pain. I focus on my Why! My incredible Mum!”

“It is important for us as a family to continue to raise monies in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. Please support me on this journey as we continue to provide hope to those families affected, to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society but to keep mum’s memory alive. She is missed but not forgotten. Please continue to give for this amazing cause.”
