Today, (Wednesday 9 November 2022), Wendy Chamberlain MP’s Private Carer’s Leave Bill passed its committee stage unopposed. If the Bill is successfully passed, one week of unpaid Carer’s leave per year for those in full-time employment would be introduced. You can listen to Wendy Chamberlain’s speech here.

What happens after committee stage?

If the Bill has been amended the Bill is reprinted before its next stage. Once committee stage is finished, the Bill returns to the floor of the House of Commons for its report stage, where the amended Bill can be debated and further amendments proposed.
