Hold Still Photography Competition
This national photography competition provides an opportunity to capture the contribution that unpaid carers make to society and raise the profile of caring.
Do you have an eye for taking a photograph that captures a momentous occasion or captures a moment in time? Put your skills to the test and take part in, Hold Still, a photography competition that is spearheaded by The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the National Portrait Gallery. Hold Still, a portrait of our nation in 2020, is an ambitious community project to create a unique photographic portrait which captures the spirit, mood, hopes, fears and feelings of the nation as we continue to deal with the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Hold Still exhibition will capture a snapshot of the people of the UK at this time. One hundred shortlisted portraits will feature in a virtual exhibition on the Gallery’s website and a selection of images will also be shown across the UK later in the year. Your photographic portrait should respond to one of the following themes:
- Helpers and Heroes
- Your New Normal
- Acts of Kindness
It would be wonderful if you were able to participate to help to make Carers visible and highlight the important role that you play in society and encapsulate how much harder your life is now because of Coronavirus.
Doctors, nurses, paid formal carers and other key workers will no doubt be included in the exhibition; let’s ensure that the vital work that family and friends carers do is captured, highlighted and their contribution during the Covid-19 crisis – and each and every day is given credit.
The project is completely free, images must involve people, and can be captured on phones or cameras. Each image will be assessed on the emotion and experience it conveys rather than its photographic quality or technical expertise. The closing date for submissions is the 18 June 2020.
