The government has announced that in April 2020, the National Living Wage will increase. This is obviously good news for some, but if you’re claiming Carer’s Allowance and earn the National Living Wage then you might miss out because there’s a maximum amount that you can earn while claiming Carer’s Allowance.
This figure is currently £123 per week and will increase to £128 per week from April, but if you are on the National Living Wage and work more than 14 hours a week, it’s likely you’ll have earnings above the Carer’s Allowance threshold. If you’re a Carer who’d like to work 16 hours a week in order to claim Working Tax Credit, you may have to give up your Carer’s Allowance.
