Carers Relaxation Breaks

“Absolutely humbled by the experience and meeting other carers in the same boat.”

Organised by the Birmingham Buddhist Centre, these breaks offer time for rest and nourishment and a chance to learn ways to take carer of your own health and wellbeing. They are suitable for people of all backgrounds and faiths or none.  All breaks take place at Holland House near Evesham unless otherwise stated.

Twenty carers attended the last break in July 2018 with five experienced members of the team from the Birmingham Buddhist Centre. The programme included two walk options of different lengths/difficulty, a massage workshop and three meditation sessions including mindfulness meditation. We often include yoga or tai chi as well which are adapted so that everyone, whatever their ability and experience, can join in.

Every break, we ask each carer for their feedback about whether it met their aims and what they thought about the programme, food, accommodation and travel. The carers combined score for the whole event was 94% (which is a pretty typical score for our events)

Here are some of the things they wrote about their experience:

“Lovely caring staff, made me feel very welcome”

“Absolutely humbled by the experience and meeting other carers in the same boat.”

“Really good to be with people who understand and make connections. This is a very helpful and restorative resource”

“Really needed break otherwise wouldn’t have been able to carry on”

“The programme helps me to cope with my life”

“Its a relaxed environment and we can choose to or not do some of the activities”

“Beautiful food, never felt hungry during my stay”

“Comfortable, quiet, peaceful, beautiful surroundings”

“I know its a challenging role and carers need to receive care themselves to be able to give and to keep going.”

“Feel recharged ready to face reality”

“The overall experience will allow me personally to have gained respite and I will be going home being able to continue our very stressful but fulfilling life as a carer. “

“First time I have relaxed in ages.”
