Cold weather can impact on existing health conditions, especially if you are 65 or older, have a long-term health condition, have a disability or have a mental health condition. Older people are particularly at risk because as we age it takes longer to warm up, which raises the risk of increased blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes.

Age UK advises to heat your home to at least 18°C (65°F) and seek financial support as there are grants, benefits and advice available to improve your heating or help with bills. Make sure you look after yourself. Inform your GP that you are caring for someone as you can benefit from free health checks, receive a free flu jab, synchronize your appointments with the person you are caring for and become more involved in their care.
